After graduating from J. F. Oberlin University with a degree in Film Studies, I gained experience at an advertising production company and a technology company before beginning my career as a film and video director.
I place strong emphasis on the “meaning” behind creating visual works, and I specialize in capturing human kindness and expression with a documentary-like touch.

Kai and Hiro, elementary school brothers living in Tokyo, are going to spend their summer vacation at their aunt’s house in Shimonoseki.
Their aunt lives on Futaoi-Island in Shimonoseki, known as the “Island where gods dwell in the forests.” Amidst the rich nature, the two brothers begin to grow little by little as they interact with the local people and learn about various values. One day, Kai meets a girl named Kino singing by the sea on the island, which makes him start to think about his own dreams. After tasting the delicious chikuwa (fish cakes) made by Kino’s grandfather, Shigeru, Kai is so moved by the flavor that he decides to create a live-streaming show with the local people to share the deliciousness of chikuwa with the world.
On the night of a spectacular drone show, Kai makes a decision that he plans to tell his mother.
The story follows Kai and Hiro’s growth, their community ties, and relationships. Kai learns focusing on his passions can guide him, while Hiro is inspired to pursue his own dreams. The Japanese food “CHIKUWA” gives them a hint.

Kiyo lives in a house at the foot of a mountain, receiving support from her neighborhood friends, her son and daughter-in-law, and a care helper. Then she receives a phone call from her son, who informs her that her daughter, Akiki, who had left home after a big fight more than ten years ago, is coming back to her parents’ house. Akiyo leaves a note on her calendar saying “lettuce maki,” a local dish in Miyazaki Prefecture.

After graduating from Ryukyu University, he enrolled in an acting school to learn realistic acting techniques, studying the Method and Meisner techniques. While exploring natural acting, he developed an interest in film directing and began working on film sets.
He gained experience as an assistant director on films such as “The Real Thing ” (official selection at the 73rd Cannes International Film Festival) directed by Akira Fukada, and “LOVE LIFE” (competition section at the 79th Venice International Film Festival), and has been involved in the production of numerous films, dramas, and commercials.
Drawing on his diverse experience across various fields—from films and dramas centered on acting and storytelling to TV commercials and web ads that prioritize visuals and appeal— he currently directs independent films, documentaries, and advertising projects.

A penguin movie featuring a penguin as the main character. On Christmas, the penguin receives a gift from a parrot brother. The contents of the gift are the penguin’s favorite treat. The penguin ends the day feeling happy, but what tragedy befalls him?! In addition to ‘The Christmas Tragedy,’ there is also the story ‘HOW TO FLY,’ about a penguin who admires the flying parrot brothers, and ‘Search for Nessie,’ where a penguin sets off on an adventure to find Nessie, whom he has loved since childhood. In total, there are three short films along with a bonus animation featuring a mouse.

Studio calappa is a duo consisting of Moriruri, who is skilled in DIY and making architectural models, and Kawamura Mao, who is skilled in illustration and clay modeling. They were inspired by an exhibition and outdoor screening of stop-motion animation they came across while traveling in the Czech Republic, and began creating works in the fall of 2024. They create sets using empty beer cans, stones they found near their house, and wood they picked up in the park. They are known for creating animations that are environmentally and wallet-friendly.

After undergoing infertility treatment and experiencing two miscarriages, just as the couple was beginning their life together, the wife was diagnosed with tongue cancer. She had found purpose in reading to children at the library, but lost her voice and time with the kids. As a passage from ‘Night on the Galactic Railroad,’ which had been a source of support, flickered through her mind, she unexpectedly met sisters who had been abandoned in their upbringing. This is a quiet and small tale of rebirth for a woman who has lost her words, as she seeks to reconnect with language once again.
