One night, by the riverside of Tuen Mun River, two girls on the same way home and lose contact with their friends and family due to phone malfunctions simultaneously. By coincidence, they met together in a familiar yet isolated space. Through this serendipity, their attitudes varied between suspicion, understanding, and appreciation. There appeared to be a vague friendship during this short journey.

He struggles with the hair becoming a means of discipline and punishment against himself, while being overwhelmed by the explosive jubilance of its sprouting. In this bizarre vision, overlaid 16mm and Super 8 film loop projections created with the filmmakers’ own hair, clash in existential rage against discipline and the body in Singapore.

Mark CHUA and LAM Li Shuen are a filmmaker and artist duo from Singapore. They met through forming an art rock group and started out making lo-fi underground films as self taught filmmakers. Over the years of their partnership, they have carved out a cinema of speculative fiction and body horror, exploring existential anxiety, histories and alienation.
Their films have screened at international film festivals including the International Film Festival Rotterdam (2024, 2023), New Directors/New Films (2023) and BFI London Film Festival (2021). In 2021, with their short film A Man Trembles, they were awarded Best Southeast Asian Director at the Singapore International Film Festival. They are currently developing their feature project, Strange Root, which was presented at CineMart 2025 and

The dream, depicting a peaceful dissolution into the sea and wind, symbolized his future death. Decades later, rediscovering a drawing from the quartet’s premiere – perfectly capturing the dream’s essence – revived its emotions. Now older, he reflects on the dream’s message: a serene acceptance of life’s inevitable end.
